October Wedding Update: Engagement Pictures

Wow, time flies! It feels like I blinked, and we’re now only a little over a year away from our wedding day. (378 days to be exact, but who’s counting!) Matt and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary on October 28th, and it’s unreal to think we’ll be celebrating our next anniversary only 2 weeks from our wedding day.

We have so many excited updates to share from October, including taking our engagement pictures! Sharing all the details and wedding planning updates below.

Engagement Pictures

We scheduled our engagement shoot with my friend & amazing photographer Natalie in September. Matt and I weren’t quite sure when the leaves would start changing since it’s our first fall up here in northern Virginia, but we figured late October is a safe bet for fall foliage.

Because we weren’t 100% sure what the weather would be like, I really struggled to figure out what to wear for our fall engagement pictures. I wanted to wear a white dress, but also thought it would be cute to wear a sweater, jeans and booties. In the weeks leading up to the pictures, the weather was in the 70s and a sweater and boots seemed overkill.

I ended up finding this adorable mock neck sweater dress on sale and it, thankfully, ended up fitting perfectly and was lightweight even for the warmer weather! For everyday wear, I’d probably belt the dress, but for pictures I wanted to keep it simple and just pair with my favorite Amazon gold hoop earrings.

Bridal PARTY

This update is still in the works, but I finalized who I am going to ask to be in my bridal party! I started putting together little bridesmaid proposal gifts to give each of them when I ask to be a part of the big day! I’ll share an entire blog post on creating your own bridesmaid proposal gifts once I’ve asked because MAN it is a struggle to make them without breaking the bank. Stay tuned!

Wedding Dress Shopping

I’ve been doing a lot of research and asking around to friends and family the best bridal boutiques to go and check out. My friend, Natalie, who took our engagement pictures, recommended this adorable bridal salon in Lynchburg, Virginia. I made an appointment for December and cannot wait to go try on dresses for the first time. I was excited enough just to try on dresses, but one of my best friends (and my college roommate from freshman year), Claire, is flying from California and stopping in Virginia on her way home for the holidays to come with me. I am tearing up just writing this and cannot wait to share the entire process of finding a dress with you guys!
