February Wedding Update: The Venue, Caterers & Wedding Cake

WOW! The wedding update you all have been patiently waiting to read for MONTHS now is finally here. This month was huge for wedding planning, so buckle up because this post is going to be a long one.

We just got home from a fun week wedding planning down in Corolla with my family. We truly ate our way through the week and did three tastings, spent an afternoon at the wedding venue and drank a few pitchers of delicious sangria. For anyone planning a Corolla wedding, I’m going to go into details about everything.

The Wedding Cake

Low key still irritated about this one. I knew there was a high likelihood of places being closed in February because it’s technically off season until late March. I spoke to a handful of bakeries before we booked our week in Corolla telling them we’d be in town February 20-26th. One bakery told me they were open and said to send them an email when I arrived in town for a cake tasting. We got to town, I sent them an email and they very rudely told me they were closed for the season and to come back some other time. (UGH LOL!)

Another bakery was a complete no-show. We showed up for our tasting Monday morning, waited for 30 minutes, and no one showed up to do the tasting. I called, texted and emailed with no answer, so we just ended up driving back to the rental house. I received a message 2 hours later saying that the employee’s car broke down and they weren’t able to meet us. Life happens, but man we were 0/2 for bakeries.

The Venue

I am so in love with our wedding venue. It is a large, 3-story house in Corolla with enough bedrooms for our immediate family and wedding party to stay in the house. Our rehearsal dinner, ceremony, and wedding reception are all at the house. So, if COVID-19 is still a large concern in November, we can limit people coming in and out of the house.

The house has an event room that was perfect for the rehearsal dinner and reception. I loved the simplicity of not having to go to multiple locations for these events, especially since both Matt and I have older family members. Additionally, it’ll be nice to only have to set up the event room once. We’ll get our tables and chairs delivered on Thursday and set up the room for both the rehearsal dinner and the reception. The only main differences is we will have a band and dance floor for the reception that won’t be there for the rehearsal dinner, but that’s about it!

I could cry! I am so excited to get married here in November. Seeing the venue got my gears turning and I started envisioning exactly how to set everything up for the wedding ceremony, rehearsal dinner and reception.

Our Caterers

I am SO excited for our rehearsal dinner and wedding reception caterers. For the rehearsal dinner, we are doing good old North Carolina BBQ from Currituck BBQ. Matt and I did the tasting and were blown away by how amazing everything was. We’ll be doing pulled BBQ chicken, pulled BBQ pork and pulled BBQ brisket. For the reception we have a contract in hand that we’re signing soon. I don’t want to jinx it before it’s a done deal, but I’ll let you all know in the next update who we decided to go with!

Sign & Sealed

This update is short and sweet because our Save-the-Dates are FINALLY out for delivery! I debated whether to hand write or print out address labels, and ultimately decided to take Sunday afternoon to address all of the envelopes in cursive handwriting I haven’t used since middle school. Thankfully, we’re only expecting around 50 guests. I couldn’t imagine having to hand address 100+ envelopes.

Thank you for reading! I can’t wait to continue to bring you all on this exciting journey as we get closer and closer to our special day!
