Beauty Product Hits & Misses from 2019

I am in no way a beauty blogger, but being a fashion & lifestyle blogger gives me the opportunity to test and try a lot of different beauty products. Most items I pay for on my own expense, and other products are sent to me via PR packages to test and possibly promote. The majority of the products below are products I was organically introduced to and purchased on my own. Keep reading to check out my hits & misses of 2019, and products I am excited to try in 2020.

HITS:

LashFood Natural Eyelash Enhancer | This LashFood eyelash enhancer is definitely an investment but works wonders on the fullness and appearance of your lashes. I apply it every night along my upper lashline, give it time to dry, and then move on with the rest of my nightly routine.

AMIKA Perk Up Dry Shampoo | In 2019, I made a promise to try and go every two days between washing my hair to promote healthier hair. I have naturally greasy hair that needs to be washed every day, so this Amika Perk Up Dry Shampoo really was a godsend!

Rosebud Salve | This Rosebud Salve has been on my “hits” list since middle school. I cannot stand dry lips and LOVE how moisturizing this product is. I have no joke applied it every single morning and night since middle school.

Nexxus Comb Thru Hairspray | Nothing can compete with this Nexxus Finishing Mist Hairspray, not even Oribe texturizing spray! This Nexxus hairspray is affordable, doesn’t have a strong scent, and holds every curl without making your hair feel crunchy. You guys know what I mean, right?

St. Tropez Self Tanner | With all of the skin cancer craziness 2019 brought, I can assure you I will never be sitting outside sunbathing ever again. For this reason, I set out to find the best self-tanner to ensure I can at least get a little color during the summertime. My friends have been recommending St. Tropez for years, but I finally made the purchase this summer and LOVE IT! I apply the mousse with my Bondi Sands Self-Tanning Mitt and am so impressed with the color it gives my naturally pale skin. I still love the Jergens Natural Glow In-Shower Moisturizer for everyday use to maintain my tan, but St. Tropez give me natural color I didn’t even think was possible from an at-home product.

PMD Clean Pro| This product is, in my opinion, the best facial cleaning device on the market. I love it so much that I actually filmed an IGTV review (not sponsored) of it on @whattheclique. The bristles of this product are made of silicone, which means they are naturally antibacterial AND if you use this product to remove your makeup, it won’t stain the bristles. Definitely a win-win!

MISSES:

Pixi Glow Tonic | I had high hopes for this exfoliating toner, but it makes me break out really badly. I even tried it multiple times over a few months to try and give my skin time to adjust to the product and still experienced bad breakouts.

BECCA Highlighter | Ok, I understand this may be an unpopular opinion, but the BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfecting Highlighter is not for me. I have the mini highlighter in Champagne Pop, and always feel it makes my naturally oily skin look super dirty and messy. I also have pretty noticeable acne scars on my cheeks, and I felt that this product (no pun intended) helped highlight these imperfections rather than help cover them.

It Cosmetics CC+ Cream | I wore the It Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+ for almost two years because I loved the benefits of having 50+ coverage on my face every day. The longer I used the product, the more I couldn’t stand how heavy this product felt on my skin. Instead, I switched to a Clinique foundation, which doesn’t offer SPF, but is a better consistency for my skin.

Not Your Mother’s Sea Salt Spray|I wanted to love this sea salt spray because my naturally curly hair normally reacts pretty favorably to sea salt sprays, but this spray left my hair feeling dirty and nasty. I actually ended up hopping back into the shower to wash it out because it felt like I hadn’t washed my hair in 4 days.

Products I’m Excited to Try in 2020:

Buxom Full-On Plumping Lip Polish|One of the biggest reasons I don’t wear lip stick or lip gloss is because I have the hardest time finding the right shade for my skin tone. This lip polish comes in 100 shades (Yes, you read that right!), so there is no excuse for not finding the right color!

Supergoop! Powder Sunscreen| This powder sunscreen can be worn over makeup to help set it, reduce shine, and offer UV protection. In addition, it comes in four shades to help you easily achieve your desired result: translucent, light, light/medium, medium/deep.

The Ordinary| The Ordinary is known for their exception dupes at a fraction of the cost. We’re talking a Lactic Acid formulation that rivals Sunday Riley Good Genes for $6.80.
