DIY Fall and Thanksgiving Table Decor
While the temperatures in Virginia may still be hovering around a balmy 70 degrees, my home is already in full-on fall mode. We’re talking about football games on all weekend, delicious chili, and mums decorating our doorstep. If I had it my way, we’d already be decorated for Christmas, but I promised Matthew we’d wait until the day after Thanksgiving. In the meantime, I am outfitting the home with pumpkin spice candles and all things fall decor!
A few weeks ago, I came across @ashleymariesavage on Instagram and her gorgeous DIY fall centerpiece tutorial. I do not consider myself artsy, but I did save her tutorial for future reference in case the creativity bug struck. Well… The creativity bug stuck, and I was itching to create a super fun fall centerpiece for our upcoming family brunch and housewarming party. Matthew and I had a field day at Michael’s and picked up everything we needed to bring this centerpiece to life.
While I know a fall pool noodle centerpiece may sound odd, you have to trust the process. As mentioned, I am not crafty but I was pleasantly surprised by how easily the DIY centerpiece came together. It took a bit of patience, but after a few pieces were in place, the vision came into focus.
A few things I did differently:
There are a few things I did differently than the tutorial.
I used a white pool noodle from Dollar Tree versus a yellow one. My hope was that the white blended into the leaves and flowers more seamlessly.
Instead of using zip ties to hold the pool noodles together, I used brown twine I had lying around at the house. I felt like brown twine more effortlessly blended in with the flowers and leaves.
The candle holders I used were thicker than what was used in the tutorial video. (I’d recommend using tapered candle holders instead!) For this reason, the two noodles had a bit of a gap between them and you could see the pool noodle on the other side. To combat this issue, I strategically placed a few flowers between the noodles to cover the holes and provide a fuller effect. While this required a few extra leaves/flowers, it hid the noodles and made the centerpiece look fuller.
Final Thoughts
All in all, I love how this DIY fall centerpiece turned out. It is the perfect fall table decor for Thanksgiving and fall gatherings. My one “oh shoot” moment is that I wish I had placed the candle holders and noodles onto a cardboard box so that it could easily be moved. When I tried to move it to the dining nook to get better pictures for this blog post, the noodles started to shift and move out of place. Looks like it is going to stay on the dining room table for the time being!
