Hey, friends! Wow, it’s been a while since I sat down and gave you an update on my life. To be completely transparent so much has happened in the past couple of months, I really didn’t even know where to start with this post. There have been some really high highs and some really low lows, but all in all, I feel so blessed to be where I am right now in my life. Like I mentioned above, SO much has happened since ringing in 2019, so I’m going to try and break things down into a few main categories.
Last weekend I made an exciting announcement on Instagram… I FINALLY reached 2,000 followers! I spent the past year wrestling with the ever-changing algorithm and spent the majority of the year pissed and confused as to why everyone else around me seemed to be growing EXCEPT me. Pretty crappy mentality, right? I was spending more time comparing myself to others on Instagram and less time focusing on my audience. I promised myself that I would take a moment and celebrate each victory, no matter how small.
While some may think 2k is a laughable feat, Matt said something the other day that really put things into perspective. If I had the opportunity to get all of my amazing followers into one room, there are only THREE building at my university that can hold that many people: the football stadium, the basketball arena, and the biggest auditorium on campus. It really is crazy how much a little perspective changes things.
Deerfield Beach // Spring Break 2018
Spring break is only three weeks away and Matt and I are heading to (drum roll please…..) ORLANDO, Florida! Your girl is so ready for some sunshine, vitamin D and relaxation. I’m going to keep the details of our trip a secret until we get a little closer, but let’s just say I almost cried like a little kid when we got our tickets. I AM SO EXCITED! Matt and I are flying from Charlottesville and meeting my parents, brother and his girlfriend in Florida. Unfortunately, my little sister is still in high school so I won’t get to see her his trip. She’ll be spending spring break with a friend soaking up the sun the week before us!
Honestly, the past couple of weeks haven’t been a cakewalk. That’s not to say things aren’t going well as a whole, I just feel like I’ve been hit repeatedly with one thing after the next. After a few weeks of this, I feel extremely rundown and uninspired. I’m excited to get out of Blacksburg and allow myself time to recharge. A little family time is the best medicine to get me back on track.
Matt and I are over the moon excited because he received an incredible summer internship offer. To say I’m merely proud of him is the understatement of the year. He has worked his booty off for everything he has gained and it quite honestly brings tears to my eyes when I think about everything the world has in store for him and for us. He will be located around the Cumberland, Maryland area living out his dream internship in the aerospace engineering field.
In related news, I am currently in talks with the company I am working for this spring to extend my contract to the end of the summer. I really love the work I am doing right now and the people I’m working with, so it makes sense for me to stay in Blacksburg (where I have an apartment with a 12-month lease).
With me in Blacksburg and Matt in Maryland, it’s going to be another long summer apart from one another. As of now, we do know Matt gets every other Friday off, so the plan is that he’ll either drive down or I’ll drive up every weekend. Since we’ve been together for a little over two years, we understand that our relationship only really thrives when we’re together. We’ve learned that long distance and separation keeps us from performing at optimal levels.
We’ll have a more set-in-stone plan in the coming months. So until then, we’re kind of in limbo and doing the best we can to figure everything out.
