Goals + 1K!

I can’t believe I’m finally sitting down and writing this post. When I first started my blog in 2011, I had no idea what marketing was; I just expected people to magically find my blog. Up until about two years ago, I had no idea What the Clique could ever evolve into a business that could provide a source of income; I was just doing what I loved! And NOW I’ve reached 1,000 FOLLOWERS ON INSTAGRAM!

I have such big goals for this blog that I sometimes have trouble celebrating the smaller milestones. I’m an extremely driven individual, so I’m always focused on the next milestone, the next collaboration, and the next big thing. I don’t take time to stop, acknowledge my victories, and pat myself on the back.

Over the summer, all I wanted was to reach 1,000 followers on Instagram and grow my blog readership. I’m happy to say I’ve achieved both goals in less than a year, but I am not content with capping out my growth at 1,000.

I have the drive to always be achieving and reaching for my next goal. This is the attitude that allows me to be a self-starter and hold myself accountable for this blog and this community every. single. day. Working to achieve my goals and never being fully satisfied helps ensure I don’t get complacent in life.

I tend to be a perfectionist and, in turn, can often be hard on myself. I’ll admit I’ve fallen victim to the comparison game more than a few times; however, in the midst of the comparison game, I’ve strived to ensure that my readers get the most authentic version of me. This means I refuse to give off the impression I am living this glamorous life through filters, photoshop and over-priced designer goods. This decision to stay authentic to my readers may be the difference between 1K and 10K followers now, but I would so much rather have fewer dedicated followers than a large community that perceives me to be someone other than who I am.

In reality, I’m a full-time college student and an executive member of Collegiate Women in Business at my university. I consider the day a success if I remember to put on my eye makeup in the morning! However, I’m also a super passionate individual with a sarcastic sense of humor and a love for every single puppy I come in contact with.

Readership

  • My readership is on track to double this year! I want to continue to foster a community based on empowerment so that my amazing readers will go and empower others in return.

Social Media

  • Social media is second in priority only to my readership. Readership is my #1 priority because I own my blog; this basically means that if social media ceases to exist one day, you guys will still know where to find me! With that being said, social media, particularly Instagram, is vital to marketing my blog. Unfortunately, we live in a world where Instagram likes and followers are associated with success. My goal for social media is to have active members across all platforms that translate into blog viewers.

Do you set goals for yourself personally and professionally?
